L'Arche Canada Foundation

Endowment Funds

Donations made to an endowment fund are invested for the long-term

An endowment fund is an investment in the future of L’Arche.

A named endowment fund is a deeply personal statement about who you are and what you care about. It is a sign of your belief in L’Arche to help build a world of inclusion and belonging for people of all abilities. An endowment fund can be named in honour of a loved one, a family or family member, or a donor. Donations made to an endowment fund are invested for the long-term. Each year the endowment fund disburses a grant to support the mission of L’Arche Canada. Once established, a named endowment fund continues in perpetuity.

Frequently asked questions

What activities will an endowment fund support?

The purpose of an endowment fund at the L’Arche Canada Foundation is to support vital work that is essential to the mission of L’Arche, but that is rarely covered by public funding. Some examples of activities that endowment funds make possible are:

  • The growth of L’Arche across Canada through new homes and apartments, social enterprise projects, educational initiatives, recreational activities and the arts.
  • Investment in innovative housing and employment opportunities that encourage the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in neighborhoods and the workplace.
  • Leadership development for people with and without intellectual disabilities that supports their empowerment to carry responsibility in their communities and their lives.
  • Advocacy work with national partners to shape social policy and foster the full participation of people with intellectual disabilities as valued leaders and citizens.
  • Project and crisis support for L’Arche communities in need around the world.
What is the financial commitment needed to start a named endowment fund?

$50,000 is the minimum gift to establish a named endowment fund. The endowment agreement between the L’Arche Canada Foundation and the donor ensures that the fund you create will continue in perpetuity in the name you have chosen. Friends, colleagues and family members are welcome to make additional donations to a named endowment fund once established. Bequests to the L’Arche Canada Foundation may also be directed to a named endowment fund. The donor or designated family member or representative will receive an annual report that includes a financial update on the endowment fund.
